Attendance: HD

I have to say I would be there in every class as possible as i can. This is quite important that we attended class every time, because i  got the sense of the progress of the project and also got more comments from the tutor. It is quite distractive and not continuous if i missed one class, even though the team member was kind of passing the main ideas to me,it would be better that you were there during the class, you  experienced what you have learned through the process.

For the group meeting,  I would be there 100 percent, and i have to i did quite a lot in our project in terms of the time contribution.

Regular post: D

In these 6 weeks after the mid term break, My post are more focusing on the process of our participatory project, I keep updating my blog minimum 1 for a week, basically its about my thoughts in participatory project. This is also the place that I have some reflection on our project.

I am not kind of person love to write the post, always struggling since the network media course. I still try my best to write the things down. I wont be a blogger anyway, hahaha, just joking.

As a social media maker: HD

I gave myself HD for this criteria, because i have learned so much and clearly understand what we can learn from this course, I have been put more effort on being a media maker in ABC pool,  It was the first time heard about Mypool from this course, I just knew that it is a professional media platform and many ABC editors are active in this platform. Once I uploaded a image called” feeling be loved” which has so much comments and feedback from the editors from Mypool. It was so surprised me and I would love to contribute more and exposure myself more in this platform. I was trying to upload as much as images that pretty much presenting myself as a photographer who love to observe the beauty in the life. Two of my images were putting on the main page of Mypool. For the effort that i have do in our participatory, I was charge of the exposure of our project in ABC pool, I got a lot of comments and response from the ABC editor. Moreover, i became a featured person in ABC pool main page. The process i have been done which has so many to talk about:

–seeding my contents with my own photography, make a sense of what the project about.

–using my exposure to get more attention from others

–comments on other people’s works, and then put the link of our page under the comments.

–keep touch with the ABC pool, and get more advices from them.

Total: HD

In this semester, I have learned a lot to be a media maker. For previous course like network media and integrated media 1, i did nt really put too much attention on it, because i really had no idea why we have to learn this kind of courses, there was no point that we can actually use it in the actual media career. However, this course really helped me a lot in terms of the awareness of being a media maker, and the advantage of being a media maker. You never know how big influence the social media is, and how you can use the social media as the way of promoting project, advertising, etc. It is a huge market, and we never gonna miss it!

Thanks so much for Nadia, You are so kind to us, and i dont really think you are like a tutor but more like a friend, its good for us, because we would like to listen to your teaching and suggestions in a efficient way. thanks again:)

In this semester, the most efficient thing I have done is working as a media maker in Mypool which gives me so much encouragement in the media platform. It was the first time heard about Mypool from this course, I just knew that it is a professional media platform and many ABC editors are active in this platform. From the beginning, I did not pay too much attention on it.

When our group started the project. I paid much attention on Mypool, I was keeping in touch with an ABC editor and he loves my works. I have ask some questions about how to organize a good project and get much exposure as much as I can. He told me to seeding the contents, and also comments on other people’s works, and try to get more attention.

I started to seed my project with my images, and then I start to ask someone’s works. I would comment on their works and then put our project links under the comments. This is one of the strategy that really successful.

Most suprisinly, I got a message from an editor in Pool team, he loves my works and ask my permission to put my profile as a featured person. I was so surprised and I hope I can be more active in this platform even our course is finished.

Final Piece

This is what we have show in our final piece, that connect all the contribution images together and make a lovely story about your twinkie moment. In this participatory project, we have paid much effort on seeding contents, contributing and interacting. It is quite fun experience for me, and i would love to keep doing some project like that in the future carrer, it would definitely works well, as long as you have awareness of being a media maker, you have to experience the product first and then pass it to more people.

This is the final piece I have done!

The most important strategy we have using is that we are trying to get more exposure as much as possible, because we don’t really have a strong social reputation, even though we have some friends but for the project we want to expand to more people in the society.  Basically we have a main platform for us uploading images and seeding in Facebook, because it contains most of the friends here. There are some exposures we have done so far.

  •  We keep updating our images everyday so that people who will keep an eye on our project and actually contribute their works inside as well.
  • Comment on other people’s work, and mentioned our project in the comment.
  • Ask their permission in using photos.
  • Call out to encourage more people to contribute the photos to us.

In our group, each member has their own platform to get exposure, develop seed contents and also interact with the users. But mostly we would put all the images we collected in Facebook.

We have already built quite a lot of seeds in Mypool and Facebook,

I think we have already built up the reputation in front of most users, and also get some comments from the users as well.

We understand that it is always a passive way to interact with the users, they wound contribute to our project which is good, but they don’t actually comment a lot in our images, and give some advices to us.

Some of strategies we have to focus on in this week

  • we are going to make a video to identify what is the twinkie moment in the collection and we would put in the pool and say call out that what is your twinkie moment? Probably they have more to talk about and to contribute.
  •  We would focus on the idea of passive users in instgram or Facebook, but the active and professional way in MyPool

Why MyPool?

–a official web for contributing your works and also creating your own project.

–The project and people are more flexible, because they have so many different projects ideas.

–You can upload images, video, links, text, etc.

–A nice platform to start with your project easily.

–People are more interactive on My Pool.

–easily to get attention from the ABC employers for your work, and identify your identity.

–you are able to keep in touch with the ABC editor and get some advices from them.

-You can ask for joining others’ project, and contribute more works, add your own members as well

Some Inspiration and ideas from other successful projects.

From the suggestion of ABC pool editor pry:

  • starts with your own works as ‘seeds’.
  • You must make that very clear in the project outline.
  • it’s important to follow that up with more work and get people to know you. Give them more comments and contribution, reversely, they would give you their contribution back. There is a lot of work on this site, and it requires a bit of effort to get to know how to get the results you are after.

Popular forms of media: In ABC pool, it has different barriers to entry if we ask for contribution in terms of images, text, audio and videos, it creates a barrier for the audience, so its better to focus on one significant media.

A project needs an incentive. There has to be a reason why you’re asking someone to contribute their creative labor and knowledge. It could be interaction with ABC ‘experts’, or a tie in with professional and community organizations. The possibility of contributions being broadcast on your program is a very big incentive.

–keep your project updated. If you haven’t updated often, the audience would think that it is not a active project, of course they would not like to attribute to your project.

  1. Have a clear purpose about why you want to initiate a project on ABC POOL and also how it will add value to your program / unit / website.
  2. Time factor. Some of the more successful audience engagement projects have taken time. Before committing to a project you should weigh up whether you or your team are in a position to commit the time before, during and after the project. It’s best if you can share some of the load amongst a program team. Involving several people in a project can also add momentum.
  3. The project should be audience focused. Projects should balance the need to speak directly to contributors with the need to make the question or call to action simple. However, posing a question that’s too simple can result in more limited contributions. Projects should have multiple / low barriers of entry to appeal to mass audiences and niche communities – text submissions and images are easy and have broad appeal, videos, audio pieces and remixes are a little more difficult. For example, Write your story of the city at night vs Remix this video of a city nightscape
  4. Popular forms of media. In their ABC POOL user researchthe Australasian Centre for Interaction Design found that the most contributed forms of media on ABC POOL were: images, text, audio then video. Different forms of media create different barriers to entry.
  5. Project Goals. Are the goals of the project focused, meaningful and valuable to the existing community? Are they likely to attract / appeal to newer members?
  6. A project needs an incentive. There has to be a reason why you’re asking someone to contribute their creative labour and knowledge. It could be interaction with ABC ‘experts’, or a tie in with professional and community organisations. The possibility of contributions being broadcast on your program is a very big incentive.
  7. Sense of fun. Some of the best projects have a sense of fun attached to them!
  8. Engage with target and/or broad communities beyond Pool. Project Producers should not necessarily rely on the ABC POOL community to contribute all of the content. When thinking of a project it’s also a good idea to think about how you may be able to motivate specific other communities like university students, community organisations, and broadcast audiences.
  9. Clarity about the ways people can contribute. Some ABC POOL projects have been based on fantastic ideas but haven’t always been clear about the specific ways that people can contribute – e.g. audio, video. Be clear and concise about some of the media / themes that you’re seeking – and also the ways people can contribute.
  10. A project needs nurturing. Once people are engaging with the project, it’s essential that the Project Producer gets involved and interacts with project members. Feedback from ABC producers can make a big difference to the number of initial and return contributions. You should showcase ideal contributions when they come in to model good work back to potential contributors. When responding to members work it’s often good to ask people questions – e.g. how did you make this? Questions stimulate conversations and help people get a sense of what you are looking for. Where possible it is good to assist in making connections between contributors.
  11. Online and offline engagement. Some of our more successful projects have benefited from both online and offline engagement. E.g. – work uploaded to Pool has featured on air, on other ABC websites, in physical displays such as exhibitions or public screens. On air promos have also been really important in driving interest / engagement and bringing new people to projects.
  12. A project should have an end date. Time frames focus contributors efforts. There will always be a surge when a project is about to close. It’s important to factor the surge of work into your planning so that you and your team can be prepared for that.
  13. Keep your contributors informed. It’s a good idea to regularly update contributors about what’s happening while the project is still live. Once a project finishes people are often keen to find out what might be happening with their work – Is it going to go to air? What will happen after the deadline? You could start a discussion within the project, or an upload a text to let people know what’s going on.

Exploration-Cowbird

Cowbird is a small community of storytellers, focused on a deeper, longer-lasting, more personal kind of storytelling than you’re likely to find anywhere else on the Web.

Cowbird allows you to keep a beautiful audio-visual diary of your life, and to collaborate with others in documenting the overarching “sagas” that shape our world today. Sagas are themes and events that touch millions of lives and shape the human story.

Our short-term goal is to pioneer a new form of participatory journalism, grounded in the simple human stories behind major news events. Our long-term goal is to build a public library of human experience, so the knowledge and wisdom we accumulate as individuals may live on as part of the commons, available for this and future generations to look to for guidance.

It gives us a sense of following advantages:

Experience incredible stories by some of the world’s finest storytellers

Present your stories in the most beautiful storytelling environment on the Web.

Preserve your stories in the world’s first public library of human experience.

Collaborate with a global network of storytellers to chronicle humanity’s sagas.

Witness the simple human moments behind major news events.

Discover the connections between your life and the lives of others.

The most impresses part is that in each gallery, which clarified different stories in different galleries.and each image has a story behind it.
